While chasing 114, Will Smeed scored 30 and Ahsan gave the Gladiators an impressive 76-run opening stand. In the last over, skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed scored three consecutive fours to end the match in style
Mohammad Imran had got the hopes up a bit for the Kings as he dismissed Smeed, but it was all in vain. Ex-skipper Imad Wasim was economical with the ball as he conceded 18 runs in four overs.
Quetta chased the small target with ease as Kings' lose their second successive game this season.
Karachi's innings
Earlier, Quetta Gladiators’ pacer Naseem Shah ran through the batting line-up of Karachi Kings, with his sensational figures of 5-20, restricting them to a 113-run total.
After being invited to bat first by Sarfaraz, Kings' remained under the pump from the beginning as the Gladiators were on the money both with the bowl as well as in the field.
Babar remained the top scorer with 32 runs, otherwise, it was a sorry tale for Kings' who could have got out for even below 100, except Aamir Yamin who scored 20, and Imad Wasim 26.
Sohail Tanvir had earlier wreaked havoc on the Kings’ top order and bagged two wickets in the third over of the match. He sent Sharjeel Khan and Joe Clarke to the pavilion.
In the fifth over, Naseem took two wickets on two consecutive deliveries. He dismissed Mohammad Nabi for a duck. Tom Lammon could score only three runs.
Later in the 15th and 17th overs, Naseem Shah took two more wickets of Mohammad Ilyas and Imad Wasim, respectively. Shah bagged five wickets in the match.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Nawaz, and James Faulkner took one wicket each.
Playing XI
Karachi Kings: Babar Azam (c), Sharjeel Khan, Joe Clarke (wk), Mohammad Nabi, Tom Lammonby, Lewis George, Aamer Yamin, Mohammad Imran, Mohammad Taha, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Ilyas
Quetta Gladiators: Will Smeed, Ahsan Ali, Ben Duckett, Sarfaraz Ahmed(c)(wk), Iftikhar Ahmed, Mohammad Nawaz, Sohail Tanvir, James Faulkner, Ashir Qureshi, Mohammad Hasnain, Naseem Shah

The 35-year-old Spanish great, seeded sixth, was too solid for the Italian seventh seed, winning 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 in two hours 55 minutes, and will face either Daniil Medvedev or Stefanos Tsitsipas in Sunday's final.
Nadal is level on 20 majors with his golden-era rivals Novak Djokovic, who was deported on the eve of the tournament, and Roger Federer, who is absent with injury.
It gives the Spaniard an opportunity to go clear at the top and add to his lone 2009 Melbourne Park crown in his sixth Australian Open final.
“For me it's all about the Australian Open more than anything else, it's an amazing event,” Nadal said.
“I have been a little unlucky during my career with some injuries and I played in some amazing finals here with some good chances against Novak in 2012 and Roger in 2017, I was close a couple of times.
“I feel very lucky that I won once in my career in 2009, but I never thought about another chance in 2022.
“So I'll just try to enjoy today's victory and try my best in the final.”
It has been an extraordinary effort from Nadal at the year's opening major, having to modify his game to compensate for a degenerative bone disease in his left foot that ended his 2021 season last August.
'It means a lot'
He then caught Covid in December which, he said, made him “very sick”.
Yet Nadal brushed aside Berrettini's challenge with precision shot-making, while last year's Wimbledon finalist could not overcome his sluggish start.
The stark statistic confronting Berrettini was that Nadal had never lost in his 20 Grand Slam semi-finals after leading by two sets.
“I started the match playing great, the first two sets were one of my best in a long time and I knew Matteo was a very solid player, very dangerous and I knew at some point in the third set he was going to go for his shots,” Nadal said.
“It means a lot to me to be in the final again here,” added Nadal who is now unbeaten in 10 matches to start the 2022 season after winning a warm-up event in Melbourne.
Nadal made the better start, breaking tentative Berrettini's opening service game when the Italian's backhand went wide.
Nadal solidly rolled through his service holds to claim the opening set on his fourth set point in 43 minutes.
Nadal was honing in on Berrettini's backhand and got his reward with a double break to take a stranglehold on the second set.
He finished off a 10-stroke rally with a delicate slice that again exposed Berrettini's backhand to consolidate the double break.
Berrettini, the first Italian man to play in the Australian Open semi-finals, raised his level in the third set.
He brought up his first break points in six sets in his two encounters with Nadal and broke with a forehand winner to 5-3 and served out to reduce the deficit to one set.
But the key break came in the eighth game of the fourth set, Nadal bringing up two separate break points and getting the crucial break when Berrettini netted a forehand before serving out for the match.
In a statement, the military's media wing said the incident took place on the night between January 25 and 26, where one terrorist was killed and several others sustained injuries.
The security forces have apprehended three terrorists in follow up clearance operation, while they were still on the hunt for the perpetrators behind the incident.
"Armed forces are determined to eliminate terrorists from our soil no matter what the cost," the statement added.
The fall of wickets began in the 10th over when Tahir picked up the first and crucial wicket of Sharjeel Khan (43), who was on a roll with his opening partner and skipper Babar Azam.
Later in the 11th over, Khushdil Shah took the wicket of Babar in the next over (23), piling up pressure on the Sultans.
Mohammad Nabi was the third man to go for 10 of 17 balls and the man to dismiss him was Tahir. In the same over, the veteran spinner picked up the wicket of Tom Lammonby (1). Joe Clarke (26) was dismissed by Shahnawaz Dahani in the 18th over.
The Sultans only gave six extras in 20 overs. Defending champions Multan had won the toss and elected to field first against Karachi.
Pakistan skipper Babar Azam, who has replaced the King's former captain Imad Wasim, is leading the squad this season, whereas the Sultans is led by the country's star cricketer, wicket-keeper batter Mohammad Rizwan.
The game is surely a tough one as both sides are the best teams of PSL as well as the champions of the tournament.
The National Stadium has been a lucky spot for Karachi Kings whenever the side has faced Sultans because they triumphed in both the matches played at the venue between the two teams.
Multan Sultans will definitely be looking to have a fine start to their title defence. However, they will be missing the experience of Shahid Afridi and Sohail Tanvir, both now with Quetta Gladiators.
Besides captain Mohammad Rizwan they have some fine T20 batsmen who can plunder runs at any stage. Hard-hitting Tim David, Sohaib Maqsood, Rilee Rossouw and Khushdil Shah can take the game away from any side at any time.
Shahnawaz Dahani will as usual be looking to put in his best. The best thing seen in him recently has been his economical bowling and particularly in the last game against the West Indies in which he was utilised recently at home Dahani was fantastic with the leather.
Kings have around six specialist batsmen, besides having utility all-rounders.
Their skipper Babar Azam showed satisfaction over the combination of his side during a news conference the other day.
Babar himself will be the key as usual. And it will be around him the whole batting lineup will revolve. Sharjeel Khan will be looking to impress the selectors both with his form and fitness.
The Kings suffered a huge blow as former skipper Wasim and international player Jordan Thompson have tested positive for coronavirus, few hours before the start of the match.
Head to head:
Overall, nine matches have been played between the two sides, with the Kings winning five and the Multan Sultans pocketing victories in two games. One match did not yield any result while one was abandoned.
Playing XI
Karachi Kings: Babar Azam (c), Sharjeel Khan, Joe Clarke (wk), Mohammad Nabi, Tom Lammonby, Lewis George, Aamer Yamin, Mohammad Imran, Mohammad Taha, Umaid Asif, Mohammad Ilyas
Multan Sultans: Mohammad Rizwan (c)(wk), Shan Masood, Sohaib Maqsood, Rilee Rossouw, Tim David, Khushdil Shah, David Willey, Imran Tahir, Imran Khan sr, Shahnawaz Dahani, Ihsanullah
Babar Azam who ranks at the top of the ICC T20I rankings, was dismissed in the 11th over by Khushdil Shah at 23 runs off 29 balls.
The fans were left disappointed with the skipper's early dismissal and said they did not expect such a performance from him.
The event began with a documentary shedding light on the journey of cricket in Pakistan featuring a voice over by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ramiz Raja.
Paragliders also descended from the sky at one point, making a clean landing in the stadium.
Singers Atif Aslam and Aima Baig turned up the heat on a cold Karachi evening by performing this year's anthem 'Agay Dekh'.
Prime Minister Imran Khan's special message to PSL teams was also played during the ceremony, followed by a vibrant fireworks display.
The ceremony will be followed by a match between defending champions Multan Sultans and Karachi Kings. Pakistan skipper Babar Azam will lead the Kings while wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan is the captain for Sultans.
The recent rise of coronavirus cases across Pakistan has forced the PCB to limit spectators in Karachi — which will host matches until Feb 7 — to 25 per cent only, following recommendations by the National Command and Operation Centre.
No such decision has been taken for Lahore yet, with the city’s Gaddafi Stadium set to host PSL matches from February 10 to 27, including the final.
It’s not only the fans who have to face restrictions due to the pandemic.
The PCB has arranged strict bio-secure bubbles for the six franchise sides, with the intent to avoid delays at any cost. According to the playing conditions set by the board’s technical committee, matches will go ahead even if 13 players out of the teams’ 20-man squads are available
In a situation where the player availability is even lower, affected teams will be allowed to pick from a reserve pool. If a Covid-19 outbreak occurs, the tournament will be halted for seven days, bio-secure bubbles will be reset from scratch and double-headers will be held in the remaining days to meet the February 27 deadline.
Despite these steps, the pandemic has already put a dampener of the event before its start. Earlier today, Quetta Gladiators announced that all-rounder Shahid Afridi would miss the start of PSL after testing positive for coronavirus.
The first leg of 15 matches will be played in Karachi from Jan 27 to Feb 7, while the remaining 19 matches will be held in Lahore from Feb 10-27.
Quetta Gladiators manager Azam Khan has confirmed that Shahid Afridi's Corona test was positive and said that Shahid Afridi will be quarantined at home.
Shahid Afridi had left the team's bio-security bubble the previous day due to back pain and went to the hospital for a few hours.
On his return from the hospital, Shahid Afridi had a corona test which came back positive. Shahid Afridi did not show any signs of covid.
BUT according to PCB protocols,Shahid Afridi will Complete 7 days of isolation.

The Olympics in China, which start on February 4, will be the first Winter Games to rely almost 100% on artificial snow, according to the study.
"Slippery Slopes: How Climate Change is Threatening the Winter Olympics", was produced by the Sport Ecology Group at Britain's Loughborough University and the Protect Our Winters campaign group.
It says more than 100 snow generators and 300 snow-making guns are working flat out to cover the ski slopes of the 2022 Winter Olympics in artificial snow.
The authors say it is an energy and water-intensive process frequently using chemicals to slow melt, but also delivers a surface that many competitors say is unpredictable and potentially dangerous.
"The risk is clear — man-made warming is threatening the long-term future of winter sports," the report says. "It is also reducing the number of climatically suitable host venues for the Winter Olympiad."
"The 2022 Winter Olympics will, no doubt, be an awesome spectacle — watched and enjoyed by millions worldwide," it adds.
"But they should also provoke a debate about the future of snow sports, and the limits of engineering artificial natural environments. Slippery slopes lie ahead."
Of the 21 venues used for the Winter Games since Chamonix 1924, scientists believe that by 2050 only 10 will have the "climate suitability" and natural snowfall levels to host an event.
Chamonix is now rated "high risk" along with venues in Norway, France and Austria, while Vancouver, Sochi and Squaw Valley in the United States are deemed "unreliable".
British freestyle skier Laura Donaldson, who competed at the Salt Lake Games in 2002, warned in the report of the dangers to athletes.
"If freestyle super pipes are formed from snowmaking machines in a poor (natural snow) season, the walls of the pipe are solid, vertical ice and the pipe floor is solid ice," she said.
"This is dangerous for athletes — some have died."
Two-time Canadian Olympian Philippe Marquis raised concerns about the increase in injuries caused by the lack of practice on snow and voiced environmental fears.
"Athletes feel the urge to push their limits even if the conditions are suboptimal," said the freestyle skier.
"The conditions are definitely more dangerous than what we've seen before."
Former British Olympic snowboarder Lesley McKenna added: "I have cherished the last three decades in snow sports. But I harbour mounting fears for where we could be in another 30 years' time."

The total toll of coronavirus positive players for the Zalmis has reached four as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Monday confirmed the franchise's Kamran Akmal and Arshad Iqbal had tested positive for COVID-19 and were replaced by players from the reserves pool.
The replacement, according to the PCB, will be temporary and the replaced players can re-integrate into the squad after completing isolation and receiving negative PCR results.
PSL 2022 is set to begin in two days, January 27, at the National Stadium in Karachi, but several players and support staff have already tested positive for coronavirus.
Four days back, the PCB said three cricketers and five members of the support staff from different franchises had tested positive for COVID-19.
The players and officials who had tested negative have entered the biosecure bubble and they were allowed to resume training from January 24.
The PCB has said that each side will be allowed a maximum of 20 players at any given time and the player replaced will be allowed to rejoin the side but will require the event technical committee’s approval.
The seventh edition of PSL will start on January 27 and Peshawar Zalmi will start its campaign on January 28 with a match against Quetta Gladiators.
Wasim Akram says that he is fine, I am taking care of complete protocols.
President Karachi Kings in his speech also thanked the fans for expressing good wishes
He appealed to the fans to remember him in prayers, he will be on the field soon.

Both the players underwent PCR tests at the time of check-in at the team hotel for Pakistan Super League (PSL) on January 21 and 22, respectively.
According to a statement issued by Peshawar Zalmi, they are replaced by Imam-ul-Haq and Ammad Butt for the PSL matches.
The replacement, according to the PCB, will be temporary and the replaced players can re-integrate into the squad after completing isolation and receiving negative PCR results.
Imam-ul-Haq was not part of the initial 15 players announced for the reserved pool but came in along with Omair Bin Yousuf after Salman Ali Agha and Musadiq Ahmed were unavailable to join the pool.
While the PCB has not announced the reasons for these two players’ unavailability from the reserves pool, the sources say that Musadiq wasn’t in Pakistan while Salman was unavailable due to medical reasons.
The PCB has further added that each side will be allowed a maximum of 20 players at any given time and the player replaced will be allowed to rejoin the side but will require the event technical committee’s approval.
The seventh edition of PSL will start on January 27 and Peshawar Zalmi will start its campaign on January 28 with a match against Quetta Gladiators.
In his tweet, he also shared photos of ICC award winning national team captains Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Mohammad Rizwan and Fatima Sana.
"You have made us proud," he said.
National team captain Babar Azam won the ICC ODI Player of the Year award while Mohammad Rizwan won the T20 Cricketer of the Year award and Fatima Sana won the Emerging Women Cricketer of the Year award.

It may be recalled that Babar Azam has also been appointed as the captain of the ICC ODI and T20 teams.
He would take seven wickets in six matches during Pakistan's progress to the semi-finals of the tournament. Throughout the calendar year, he dominated the shortest format, taking 23 wickets in 21 matches, with his bowling attack improving by great strides.
Afridi burst into life during the home series against South Africa, after a difficult start to the year in Test cricket in New Zealand. He maintained his outstanding form throughout the year's away tours to Zimbabwe, the West Indies, and Bangladesh. In total, he took 47 wickets in nine matches at an astounding average of 17.06.
Afridi's opening blast against India in Dubai last year in T20 World Cup, changed everything and drew audible gasps from everybody at the wizardry on display.
He'd begin by bringing down Rohit Sharma with a late in-dipper, which was followed by KL Rahul's dismissal as his stumps were knocked over by another gem of a delivery. India simply could not recover from this, suffering their first-ever World Cup defeat to Pakistan. Later in the innings, he would also claim Virat Kohli's prized scalp in the death overs.
The figures (3/31) simply do not do credit to what Shaheen demonstrated that tragic day in Dubai.
The event will mark Bismah Maroof’s return to international cricket after two years as she took a break from the game for the birth of her first child in December 2020.
She will be accompanied by a support person, as part of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) new parental policy, to help her look after her newborn while keeping her focus on cricket.
The Asmavia Iqbal-led selection committee that includes Saleem Jaffar and Taufeeq Umar has called up leg-spinner Ghulam Fatima, who last played for Pakistan in 2018, and opener Nahida Khan, whose last outing in Pakistan colours was last January, after impressive performances in practice matches during the recent Karachi camp.
Experienced all-rounder Nida Dar has been appointed the vice-captain for the World Cup.
Batter Iram Javed, all-rounder Tuba Hassan and wicketkeeper Najiha Alvi are the travelling reserves.
Apart from Azam, the ICC had nominated Bangladesh's Shakib Al Hasan, South Africa's Janneman Malan, and Ireland's Paul Stirling for the award.
This is the third consecutive honour for Babar as ICC had earlier picked his as the captain for ODI Team of the Year and T20I Team of the Year.
In his acceptance speech, the skipper thanked fans, family, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the ICC, and his team for supporting and boosting his morale.
Babar Azam said he believes his best knock in the year was against England at Edgbaston, which was also his career-best.
"I was actually struggling there, but that knock gave me a lot of confidence," he said.
On the South Africa tour, Babar praised the performances of Fakahar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq — and did not leave himself out.
"My aim is to score runs in every country and at the home of the opponents. It was my goal and that series [against South Africa] was quite helpful for us," he added.
Then came the dream moment as Dahani, wearing the Multan’s jersey, went to impress everyone with his performance and unmatched energy on-field during the PSL 6 season. Soon afterwards, he was picked by the selectors for Pakistan’s squad.
Since then, a lot has changed for Dahani. But the guy himself is unchanged. The boy from Larkana is still the same — smiling, humble, energetic, and jolly.
In an exclusive interview with Geo News, ahead of PSL 7, Dahani spoke about his cricket journey last year, his plans, and some interesting stories of new friends he made.
Dahani said that a lot of things have changed for him in the last year as now, he is a much-improved bowler and has learnt a lot after coming to Pakistan’s dressing room. But one thing that hasn’t changed for him is his humbleness.
“I am still the same Dahani as far as my attitude is concerned and I will always remain the same, the same as how I was when I came from the village, this is natural for me and this will always stay with me,” he added.
“I am thankful to all the fans and the people of Pakistan who’ve sent me their unconditional love and support since I appeared on mainstream cricket,” Dhani was quoted as saying.
He explained how he still spends time with his childhood friends and the experience makes him nostalgic.
“The memories of playing barefoot in village, jumping in the pool to find the ball, and collecting guava from farms, these are the memories that will always remain with me," he said. "Whenever I go back to the village, I spend time with my friends to recall the memories."
He further went on to say that this time his friends are coming to see him during the PSL.
Dahani said that being connected with PSL and the Pakistan team taught him a lot, especially in terms of improving his bowling skills.
Earlier this week, the ICC had also included Rizwan in its T20I team of the year featuring two more Pakistani players — Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi.
"The Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman ruled the roost in 2021 when it came to the shortest format of the game," the ICC said of Rizwan after crowning him as the top T20I player of the year.
The player aggregated a staggering 1,326 runs in only 29 matches at an average of 73.66 and a strike-rate of 134.89 last year.
According to the cricket body, Rizwan was "as solid as ever behind the stumps", playing a key role in Pakistan's run to the semi-final during the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021, where he ended up as the third-highest run-scorer.
He also scored the maiden T20I century of his career against South Africa in Lahore early in the year and ended it continuing his form with a "brilliant knock" of 87 against West Indies in Karachi.
"With another T20 World Cup coming up next year, Pakistan will hope that Rizwan continues in the same vein," said the ICC.
The global cricket body also appreciated Rizwan for his impressive innings in the World T20 fixture against India that helped Pakistan beat its arch-rivals for the first time in any world cup.
"With the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami in opposition attack, the task was made all the more complicated. But as was almost always the case in 2021, Rizwan along with his skipper Babar Azam ensured to seal a famous victory that will be remembered in the history of Pakistan cricket for years to come."
Rizwan had smacked an unbeaten 79 runs off 55 balls, hitting six fours and three sixes in the high-profile match against India.
Addressing a virtual news conference Saturday, Riaz said, “When you play cricket, your target is always Pakistan.”
“I have performed. Even last season I was the second highest wicket-taker in the PSL. Sometimes you get the chance and sometimes you don’t get the chance. I have great passion for playing for Pakistan and that is why I am playing cricket,” Wahab said.
“This is another opportunity for me to perform and make a comeback. I feel that I can play for Pakistan for another two or three years. I will try my level best,” said the pacer, who is also captaining Peshawar Zalmi, one of the most successful franchises.
Asked whether he is in a position to perform better than Haris Rauf, Shaheen Afridi and Hasnain in the PSL right now, he said: “Hasnain, Shaheen and Haris are very good bowlers. If you say whether in the PSL I can perform better than them; so my record speaks about that,” Wahab said.
“It’s not necessary you take wickets every year, it is also counted how well you bowl. All my records in the PSL are in front of you and I will try to continue that. My competition is not with these bowlers but my competition is with myself because I want to perform and play for Pakistan,” Wahab said.
Wahab played his last Test in October 2018, last ODI in November 2020 and last T20I in December 2020.

The arch-rivals will lock horns at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on October 23, a day after Australia begin their title defence against New Zealand in Sydney — a repeat of the 2021 final in Dubai where Aaron Finch's team won their maiden crown.
The 16-nation tournament will begin on October 16 with Sri Lanka facing Namibia in Geelong — one of seven venues as Australia hosts for the first time.
“Our planning was ultra-detailed last time and knowing what the groups look like nine months out is really helpful because it can help your level of detail in that planning phase more and more,” Finch said.
“It's a tough group though, and when you throw in qualifiers like the West Indies and Sri Lanka, you've got to play really well to get out of that group stage.”
The top two teams from both Group A and Group B in the preliminary first round will join the automatically qualified nations in the Super 12 stage.
England, New Zealand, Australia and Afghanistan have been drawn together in Group 1. India, Pakistan, South Africa and Bangladesh are clubbed in Group 2.
The spotlight will be on the Group 2 India-Pakistan contest at the MCG, with the two in recent years only meeting in multi-nation events due to tensions over occupied Kashmir.
Pakistan recorded their first win over India in World Cups last year in Dubai when they hammered Virat Kohli's team.
The Sydney Cricket Ground will host the first semi-final on November 9 while the second last-four clash will be held at the Adelaide Oval.
The final will be played at the MCG on November 13 under lights. The tournament will begin with a six-day preliminary stage of two four-team groups.
Sri Lanka and Namibia in Group A, and West Indies and Scotland in Group B will be joined by four qualifiers yet to be determined.
Australia had been due to host the T20 World Cup in 2020 but it was delayed two years because of the coronavirus pandemic with India retaining the 2021 edition — though that edition had to be shifted to Dubai because of Covid.

The cricket body had unveiled its T20I team of the year a day ago, naming Azam as its skipper for his "classy best" performance in the format last year, during which he was also the leading run-scorer at the T20 World Cup. He earned the same honours for the 50-over format as well.
The 11-member ODI team announced today comprises Babar Azam (c), Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), Fakhar Zaman, Rassie van der Dussen, Shakib Al Hasan, Wanindu Hasaranga, Mustafizur Rahman, Simi Singh and Dushmantha Chameera.
The ICC, in its statement, noted that Azam played just six ODI matches last year, "but he still managed to score 405 runs at an average of 67.50 with two centuries."
The talismanic Pakistan skipper made vital contributions on tough away tours of South Africa and England, ending up with player of the match awards in both their victories in the former, said the ICC.
"He also scored a memorable ton in Birmingham in conditions that assisted the seamers."
The ICC also commended Zaman for his "stellar run" in the national side's ODI matches in 2021.
It said the opener played six matches and aggregated 365 runs at an average of 60.83 with two centuries. Zaman's century against South Africa impressed the ICC the most, which, according to the cricket body, will be "remembered for ages".
The T20I team, announced by the ICC yesterday, featured Jos Butler, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Babar Azam (c), Aiden Markram, Mitchell Marsh, David Miller, Tabraiz Shamsi, Josh Hazlewood, Wanindu Hasanranga, Mustafizur Rahman and Shaheen Shah Afridi.

It came after the 35-year-old, regarded as her country's greatest women's tennis player, bowed out of the Australian Open in the first round with her partner Nadiia Kichenok of Ukraine.
“I have decided this will be my last season. I'm taking it week by week, not sure if I can last the season, but I want to,” she told press in Melbourne, in comments later confirmed to AFP by her father.
“I still feel I can play well, go deep into tournaments and all that. But beyond this season, I don't see my body do it either. It's beat.”
Mirza, who has won six Grand Slam doubles titles, is paired with America's Rajeev Ram in the mixed doubles at the Australian Open. They play on Thursday in the first round.
Mirza, who is married to former Pakistan cricket captain Shoaib Malik, last won a women's doubles title at the Ostrava Open in September, with China's Zhang Shuai.
But Mirza admits that injuries and a young family is drawing a curtain on her career.
“I do feel my recovery is taking longer, I'm putting my three-year-old son at risk by travelling so much with him, that's something I have to take into account. I think my body is wearing down,” she said.
“My knee was really hurting today and I'm not saying that's the reason we lost, but I do think that it is taking time to recover as I'm getting older.”
Mirza became the first Indian to win a WTA singles title, in 2005, in her hometown Hyderabad. She reached the fourth round of the US Open the same year and by 2007 was among the women's top 30.
But a wrist injury caused her to concentrate on doubles, forging a partnership with Swiss great Martina Hingis which produced three Grand Slam titles.
Pakistan's star players, wicket keeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan and bowling sensation Shaheen Shah Afridi, also made it to the team.
In a statement issued for the announcement of Men’s T20I Team of the Year, the ICC said that it is to recognise 11 outstanding individuals who have impressed one and all, "be it with the bat, the ball or their all-round exploits in a calendar year."
Other players include Jos Buttler of England, Mitchell Marsh of Australia, David Miller of South Africa.

The Hyderabad-born pacer, who made his debut over at the BBL with a triple-wicket maiden, will undergo the test at the International Cricket Council accredited bio-mechanics laboratory in Lahore, the report said.
The development comes after the the 21-year-old — who played for Sydney Thunder — was accused of chucking during a match against Sydney Sixers.
According to a report by Samaa, the incident occurred during the first innings of the match as Sixers’ captain Moises Henriques failed to connect when Hasnain bowled a bouncer.
Words were exchanged between the duo, with Henriques telling Hasnain: “Nice throw, mate”.
According to the ICC website, an illegal bowling action is where a player is throwing rather than bowling the ball.
"This is defined by the ICC as being where the player’s elbow extends by an amount of more than 15 degrees between their arm reaching the horizontal and the ball being released," the rules state.
If the player is found to be using an illegal bowling action, then they will be suspended from bowling until they have modified their bowling action and undertaken another test successfully, the rules add.
As his euphoric teammates started popping champagne bottles on the stage at Hobart's Bellerive Oval, Khawaja stepped aside to avoid being sprayed with alcohol in keeping with his religious beliefs.
Cummins quickly noticed and asked his teammates to put aside the bottles and gestured for Khawaja to rejoin them on the dais.
Khawaja, who played the last two matches of the five-test series, returned to the stage and kneeled beside Cummins as the victorious side let out a roar posing for the cameras.

Instead of warming up for his first scheduled match on centre court at Melbourne Park in front of thousands, Novak Djokovic was 11,600 km (7,200 miles) away, agreeing to photos with a handful of fellow travellers.
"Hey mate, sorry about what's happened," one man said as he lowered his face mask for a snap with Djokovic, who kept his own mask on as he waited just off the airbridge for his entourage to exit the plane.
The world number one flew out of Melbourne late on Sunday after the Federal Court upheld a government decision to cancel his visa, capping days of drama over the country's COVID-19 entry rules and his unvaccinated status.
Djokovic was escorted to Melbourne Airport by Australian Border Force officials, who formed a guard around the player in an airport lounge before taking him to the door of the plane.
"Whenever I am in difficult situations, I go to Saifi (Sarfaraz) bhai. He has led the team for a long time and is an experienced captain. His thoughts are nice and whenever I am stuck in a difficult situation, I go to Saifi bhai and his advice helps me a lot," Babar
He also noted that he takes advice from his vice-captains Shadab Khan and Mohammad Rizwan and other senior players, including veteran all-rounder Shoaib Malik.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has organized a function in honor of the national team for its outstanding performance in Calendar Year 2021. In which Chairman PCB Rameez Raja gave a prize of Rs 1.5 million each to the players.
Captain Babar Azam, Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Sarfraz Ahmed, Emad Wasim, Shahnawaz Dhani, Haider Ali, Sajid Khan and Abid Ali were present on the occasion.
Fast bowler Hassan Ali, Shadab Khan and former all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez could not attend due to busy schedule.
PCB chairman met the players and interim head coach Saqlain Mushtaq at the National High Performance Center. Rameez Raja praised the performance of the players.
The players attended a dinner after meeting with chairman pcb in which was attended by the support staff of the national team as well as the PCB directors.
Djokovic arrived at Melbourne'sPark Hotel, the same immigration detention hotel where he was held last week, just before 3:30 pm (0430 GMT), according to a Reuters witness.
About a dozen refugee activists chanted "stop the torture... let them out" as Djokovic and Border Force guards drove into the underground garage of the hotel, which is also being used to hold 33 asylum seekers and travellers in COVID-19 quarantine.
A man cycling past the hotel shouted: "Go home, Novak!"
It will be a second stint in detention for Djokovic, who spent his first four nights in Australia in hotel detention before a judge freed him on Monday after finding a decision to cancel his visa on arrival had been unreasonable.
Immigration Minister Alex Hawke decided to cancel the Serbian superstar's visa because his presence could foster opposition to COVID-19 vaccination in Australia, court documents released after an initial hearing in the Federal Court on Saturday showed.
"Although I ... accept that Mr Djokovic poses a negligible individual risk of transmitting COVID-19 to other persons, I nonetheless consider that his presence may be a risk to the health of the Australian community," Hawke said in a letter to Djokovic and his legal team.
This explanation in Djokovic's affidavit is more detailed than the brief statement Hawke released on Friday, which said his decision was based on "health and good order grounds".
Justice David O'Callaghan set a hearing on Djokovic's appeal for 9:30 a.m. on Sunday (2230 GMT on Saturday), with the question of whether it would be held before a single judge or a full court still to be determined.
Djokovic's lawyers said on Friday they would argue deportation would only further fan anti-vaccine sentiment and would be as much a threat to disorder and public health as letting him stay and exempting him from Australia's requirement that all visitors be vaccinated.
A court order on Friday night had required the 34-year-old to surrender to immigration officials for an interview on Saturday morning, before he would be taken to his lawyers' officers for the preliminary hearing. After leaving his lawyers, he was to be taken into immigration detention.
Border Force and the immigration minister's office did not immediately respond to requests for comment on whether Djokovic had attended the interview.
The government has said it would not deport Djokovic until his appeal has been heard. Djokovic wants to be able defend his title at the Australian Open, which begins on Monday.

Immigration Minister Alex Hawke used discretionary powers to again cancel Djokovic's visa, after a court quashed an earlier revocation and released him from immigration detention on Monday.
"Today I exercised my power under section 133C(3) of the Migration Act to cancel the visa held by Mr Novak Djokovic on health and good order grounds, on the basis that it was in the public interest to do so," Hawke said in a statement.
Djokovic, the defending champion, was included in Thursday's draw as top seed and was due to face fellow Serb Miomir Kecmanovic for his opening match, probably on Monday or Tuesday.
The decision to again cancel his visa over COVID-19 entry regulations could set up a second court battle by the Serbian tennis star, after a court quashed an earlier revocation and released him from immigration detention on Monday.
Melbourne's The Age newspaper cited a source in Prime Minister Scott Morrison's Liberal Party as saying the government was "strongly leaning" towards revoking the visa again.
Djokovic, a vaccine sceptic, fuelled widespread anger in Australia when he announced last week he was heading to Melbourne for the Australian Open with a medical exemption to requirements for visitors to be inoculated against COVID-19.
And while the gender of the fan is irrelevant, Pakistan's much-adored cricketer Mohammad Rizwan has never been spotted with a female fan in any of his pictures.
The national squad wicketkeeper-batter has finally disclosed the reason why he never clicks pictures with ladies. The revelation was made during an interview that is making rounds on social media.
When asked why is he so shy around women, Rizwan said: "It is not about being shy but some things are personal and every player has their own personal."
He said that he respects women a lot and doesn't consider himself "worthy" of being photographed with "mothers and sisters" even if they ask for it.
"The worth of these women is very high to me and I wish that mothers and sisters who are my fans would not be offended by this," Rizwan said.
South Africa, sixth in the International Cricket Council Test rankings, beat top-ranked India by seven wickets to clinch the three-match series 2-1.
It was a tense chase, with South Africa having to work for almost every run after being set to make 212 on a pitch which gave assistance to the fast bowlers.
Petersen, on 59, survived a straightforward chance to Cheteshwar Pujara at first slip off Jasprit Bumrah in the seventh over of the day.
Petersen went on to add 23 more valuable runs as he and Rassie van der Dussen (41 not out) put on 54 runs after resuming at the overnight 101 for two.
Van der Dussen and Temba Bavuma (32 not out) took South Africa to victory 35 minutes after lunch with an unbeaten stand of 57.
South Africa looked up against it after India stormed to victory in the first Test before the hosts levelled in Johannesburg to go on for a memorable series success.

Immigration Minister Alex Hawke's earlier statement that he is pondering whether to tear up the visa “has not changed”, Morrison told a news conference in Canberra on the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Australian leader stressed that it was a decision for Hawke to take, declining further comment.
Djokovic flew into Melbourne hoping to claim a tenth Australian Open title on January 5.
The unvaccinated 34-year-old Serbian ace carried with him a vaccine exemption because of a claimed positive PCR test result on December 16.
Border agents rejected his exemption, saying a recent infection was an insufficient reason, tore up his visa and placed him in a detention centre.
But vaccine-sceptic Djokovic's high-powered legal team overturned the visa decision in court on Monday on a procedural matter related to his airport interview.

The Egypt international has fewer than 18 months remaining on his current deal and has reiterated whether he stays or goes remains in the hands of Liverpool.
Reports have suggested that Salah, who has won the Champions League and Premier League with Liverpool, is looking for a weekly salary of more than £300,000 ($408,000).
That would smash the Reds' wage structure and would represent a significant policy change by the club, with the owners reluctant to hand out lucrative contracts to players once they reach 30, which Salah does in June.
Salah, who has scored 111 goals in 165 Premier League matches for Liverpool, and is on track for a third Golden Boot in five years, said he wanted to be appreciated.
"I want to stay, but it's not in my hands. It's in their hands. They know what I want. I'm not asking for crazy stuff," Salah told GQ magazine.
"The thing is when you ask for something and they show you they can give you something (they should) because they appreciate what you did for the club.
"I've been here for my fifth year now. I know the club very well. I love the fans. The fans love me. But with the administration, they have (been) told the situation. It's in their hands."
Salah, currently playing for Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations, has made the three-man shortlist, along with Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski and Paris Saint-Germain's Lionel Messi, for FIFA's best men's player of 2021.
He finished seventh in the race for last year's Ballon d'Or, but the Egyptian's ambition is to be the best in the world.
"I can't really lie and say honestly I didn't think about it," he said. "No, I think about it. I want to be the best player in the world.
"But I will have a good life even if I don't win. My life is OK, everything is fine."
Last month, Shah and his friend Farhan — the main suspect — were named in a case concerning the alleged rape of a 14-year-old girl. The case was registered in the Shalimar police station under section 376, 292-b and 292-c of Pakistan Penal Code in response to a complaint lodged by a resident of F-10.
In the statement released today, Shalimar police said that the cricketer's name was included in the FIR due to "misrepresentation". Police said Shah had "no links" to the case, claiming that the complainant had also asked to remove the cricketer's name from the case.
Meanwhile, an Islamabad trial court rejected the request of Farhan for pre-arrest bail. After the court's decision, the accused fled from the courtroom and officials were unable to arrest him.
'Truth has prevailed'
Later in the day, Shah heaved a sigh of relief on the development and said "the truth has prevailed."
He said that the harassment case against him had been dismissed with the support and prayers of his fans, family and the Pakistan Cricket Board.
"It would not have been possible without their trust. I am a representative of Pakistan. Whoever tries to defame me is defaming the country," he added.
Allhamdullilah pic.twitter.com/aX9Hw88CFH
— Yasir Shah (@Shah64Y) January 12, 2022
Shah said he was devastated in the aftermath of the incident, but refrained from contesting "personal vendettas and intended to take this through the courts of law to expose the truth".
He said only the haters of the country could stoop so low and indulge in levelling such allegations for for personal interests. "I'm also in the process of filing a case for defamation against the ones who are involved in this," he said.

New Zealand's decision to enforce the follow-on denied Taylor, who made 28 in their first innings total of 521-6 declared, the chance to bat again.
Bangladesh managed 126 in the first innings and were 278-9 in the third day's final session when New Zealand skipper Tom Latham tossed the ball to Taylor.
The part-time spinner sent down two dot balls before inducing a skyer from Ebadot Hossain and Latham took a tumbling catch at midwicket to ensure a winning farewell for the former New Zealand captain.
The victory margin could have been bigger but for Liton Das' counter-attacking 102 for Bangladesh, who had shocked the world test champions in the opening match in Mount Maunganui.
"It's a great way to finish," said Taylor, New Zealand's most prolific test batsman with 7,683 runs, which include 19 hundreds, from 112 matches with an average of 44.66.
"I wanted to finish with a win and the guys definitely gave it to me.
"It was an emotional game for me and my family ... it was good to get the win," added the 37-year-old, who will play his last limited overs internationals against Australia and the Netherlands during the home summer.
Smarting from their shock eight-wicket loss in the opening test, New Zealand enforced the follow-on before their seamers ensured victory.
"The bowlers did a bloody good job on a tiring wicket," Latham said.
"Ross Taylor rocked up and took the last wicket. He has been there for 17 years ... been such an important member of the group."
Latham, whose 252 earned him the man-of-the-match award, took a stunning catch at second slip to dismiss Mohammad Naim as Bangladesh started to unravel.
Neil Wagner subjected the tourists' batsmen to a bouncer barrage and was rewarded with figures of 3-77, while Kyle Jamieson claimed 4-82.
Bangladesh captain Mominul Haque (37) and Nurul Hasan (36) could not convert their starts into big knocks but Liton scored freely to bring up his second test hundred in 106 balls.
"I'm really happy with the first test, but the second test was disappointing," Mominul said.
Devon Conway was adjudged man-of-the-series for smashing two hundreds in three innings.

Mane, who switched to Liverpool in 2016 after two years with the Saints, netted a penalty seven minutes into added time to deliver a fortunate 1-0 Group B victory over Zimbabwe in Bafoussam.
A few hours later it was the turn of Boufal, now at French Ligue 1 Angers after four years with Southampton, to score and earn Morocco a 1-0 Group C win over Ghana in Yaounde.
Gabon overcame the absence of captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to beat debutants Comoros 1-0 in the other game in the section.
With Arsenal star Aubameyang sidelined after testing positive for Covid-19, Aaron Boupendza slammed in from an acute angle on the quarter-hour to snap a five-game winless run at the tournament.
Guinea edged Malawi 1-0 through a 35th-minute goal from Issiaga Sylla and they share first place in Group B with Senegal.
The results maintained a run of one-goal victories in a tournament that finally kicked off on Sunday after being postponed by a year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Cameroon came from behind in the tournament opener to beat Burkina Faso 2-1 and Cape Verde struggled to a 1-0 win over 10-man Ethiopia in the other Group A clash.
On Tuesday, record seven-time champions Egypt confront three-time winners Nigeria in the northwestern city of Garoua in what promises to be a highlight of the 36-match first round.
Disaster struck gallant underdogs Zimbabwe when a shot hit the right arm of Kelvin Madzongwe and Mane sent Petros Mhari the wrong way with the penalty on 97 minutes to settle a lacklustre affair.
While Senegal, seeking a first title after twice finishing runners-up, dominated possession, they rarely threatened to break down a well-organised Zimbabwe defence.
"It was difficult playing in such hot conditions, and not having an opportunity to play any warm-up matches affected us," said Mane.
"We left it very late to score, but the most important issue was to secure maximum points and we achieved that. Now we must try to perform better against Guinea."
After a quiet start, Mane burst between two defenders on 24 minutes only to see his low shot, aimed at the far corner of the net, blocked by Mhari.
As half-time approached in the Cameroonian highlands, Mane turned provider, setting up unmarked Idrissa Gueye, who was let down by his first touch as he prepared to shoot.
Senegal survived a scare as full-time loomed with a Zimbabwe free-kick creating a half chance before the ball was grasped by goalkeeper Seny Dieng, deputising for Edouard Mendy, who is recovering from Covid-19.
With a cagey affair between Morocco and Ghana seemingly heading for a goalless stalemate, Boufal turned in the goalmouth and fired a loose ball past goalkeeper Joseph Wollacott on 83 minutes.
"It's a very good victory," said Morocco boss Vahid Halilhodzic.
"I told the players I was proud of them. We had a lot of problems. We were missing four or five players in attack and I was forced to use some boys who were playing in the Cup of Nations for the first time."
After a cagey, foul-riddled start at a 42,500-seat stadium named after former Cameroon president Ahmadou Ahidjo, Thomas Partey came close on 32 minutes for Ghana with his free-kick going just over the crossbar.
That was a signal for both teams to show more urgency and Morocco captain Romain Saiss got his head to a free-kick in a crowded goalmouth only to see it fly over.
Just before half-time when a solo run by Joseph Paintsil offered Ghana hope of a goal, but his finish was embarrassing, sending his shot well wide.
Paintsil threatened again early in the second half with a lengthy dribble only to pass poorly on the edge of the box.
Paintsil fired goalwards with 18 minutes remaining only to be denied by a brilliant one-hand save from Yassine Bounou.
"It was a tough game against one of the best teams in CAN. I think Morocco were a bit lucky," said Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac.
