There is no bigger game in cricket than the clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan, and one is due on Sunday (tomorrow).
The two neighbouring nations, with a bitter cricketing history, will lock horns in the Asia T20 Cup. Having being whipped by a whopping margin of ten wickets by the Green Shirts in the T20 World Cup game on October 24, 2021, last year in Dubai, India will be very cautious in the much-anticipated showpiece.
And indeed it would not be easy for India to dent Pakistan’s hopes. The Green Shirts, with strong T20 cricket credentials over the years, can repeat last year’s World Cup feat against India with their opening pair of Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, who will be a real threat to the Indians.
With Babar having stamped his authority as the most reliable batsman in all three formats with enormous consistency, Rizwan is undoubtedly the most dangerous T20 player which the world has produced in recent years.
Having played together for quite some time while opening the innings in the T20 forma,t both know the art of handling any top attack with an enviable ease. With Babar elegant in his approach, Rizwan is brutal when it is his day. The contracting characters will be a real threat to India, which are hot favourites of the six-nation event.
If both bat for a few overs, they may take the game away from India. Besides being highly reliable, both also know each other and can put a lot of pressure on the Indians with their singles and twos which are at times needed in T20 cricket.
Irrespective of his fluctuating fortunes in the longer format, Rizwan always has shown a killer instinct in T20 cricket. And his recent stint with Sussex shows this.
Rizwan had a wonderful 2021, amassing 1,326 runs in 26 innings with 12 fifties and one century. He also scored the most runs in the format in a calendar year than any other batter to date.
And the Peshawar-born wicket-keeper batsman will look to build on his heroics from the previous match in the 2021 T20 World Cup.
After Rizwan, Babar was the second-highest run-scorer in T20 cricket in 2021. And he has not shown any signs of shifting gears at any stage, having ruled the world’s cricket for the previous two years or so.

As the rest of the team gets ready for its crucial opening encounter set for Sunday, August 28, against India in Asia Cup 2022, the board management decided Wasim should get an MRI scan. The report is expected to be in by today (Friday) evening.
As per media report, a decision on whether Wasim will play in the Asia Cup will be taken based on the report.
The team management is hopeful that the pacer's back pain will not exacerbate and the immediate MRI was just a precaution.
Wasim's back ache comes after Shaheen was ruled out of Asia Cup as he suffered a knee injury during the Test series against Sri Lanka in July.
Although Shaheen will not be playing in the tournament, he is still on the trip with the team. He is undergoing rehabilitation.
After the match against India, Pakistan's second Group A fixture will be against a qualifier (UAE, Kuwait, Singapore or Hong Kong) in Sharjah on Friday, 2 September. The Super Four matches will be played from 3-9 September.

The Asia Cup 2022, which is the 15th edition of the tournament, is scheduled to be played from August 27 to September 11. The entire tournament is set to be held in United Arab Emirates (UAE) with the hosts Sri Lanka taking on Afghanistan in the opening clash.
The tournament was originally set to be played in Sri Lanka but was shifted to United Arab Emirates (UAE) due to the economic and political crisis in the country. The matches of the tournament will be played across two venues, including Dubai International Stadium and Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
Notably, the Asia Cup, which was last played in 2018, will be played in the T20 format with 6 teams fighting for the title. The 5 teams that will be fighting for the championship were already confirmed. Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan were the confirmed teams.

It is the time of the year when once again cricket fans will remain glued to their TV screens to watch arch-rivals Pakistan and India face off against each other at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on August 28 during the T20 Asia Cup 2022.
Any cricket match between the two nations is one of the most watched events on the global sporting calendar .
Let’s take a look at the history of these two rivals in the Asia Cup.
The Asia Cup 2022 will be played in the T20 format. This is the second time the tournament will be played in the shortest format. It was last held in the T20 format in Bangladesh in 2016, where India lifted their seventh Asian title by defeating the host by eight wickets in the final.
Consequently, Pakistan and India faced each other only once during the said tournament.
Last time, when the Men in Green met the Blue Shirts, they handed a meagre target of 83 runs — becoming the only Test nation to score double figures in T20 Asia Cup — which was easily achieved by the neighbours in 15 overs.

However, only 17 players from the 20-player squad will leave for the tour on August 24.
Dinesh Chandimal, Nuvanindu Fernando, and Nuvan Thushara have been included in the squad for the Asia Cup but they will not travel with the team as extras.

This, the PCB said in a statement, will be England’s second half of the tour, following seven T20 Internationals in Karachi and Lahore from 20 September to 2 October.
Ben Stokes’ side will open the tour with the first Test in Rawalpindi from 1-5 December, before both sides move to Multan for the second Test from 9-13 December.
Karachi will host the third Test from 17-21 December.
This will be the first time England will play a Test in Rawalpindi, which has previously staged 12 matches with the home side winning five and losing three.
When England last toured Pakistan in 2005, they lost the Multan Test by 22 runs. The venue has staged five Tests, with Pakistan winning three and losing one.
National Stadium was considered Pakistan’s happy hunting ground until Nasser Hussain’s side in 2000 ended Pakistan’s 34-Test unbeaten record, winning the third Test in near darkness by six wickets.
Pakistan’s only other loss in 44 matches in Karachi was against South Africa, who won the 2007 Test by 160 runs.
Nonetheless, with 23 Test wins, the National Stadium remains Pakistan most favourite Test venue.
The three Tests will count towards the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23. No.4 ranked England are presently sitting in the seventh position on the Test championship table, while sixth-ranked Pakistan are fifth.
Schedule of Tests
1-5 December – 1st Test, Rawalpindi
9-13 December – 2nd Test, Multan
17-21 December – 3rd Test, Karachi
Schedule of T20Is

25 September – 4th T20I, Karachi

Shaheen had suffered a right knee ligament injury while fielding during the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle last month.
In a statement, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said Shaheen has been advised four to six weeks of rest by the body's medical advisory committee and independent specialists following the latest scans and reports.
"This means Shaheen has been ruled out of the ACC T20 Asia Cup and home series against England," the board announced about the pacer, who routinely serves as a crucial part of Pakistan's bowling attack.
The young pacer is expected to return to competitive cricket in October with the New Zealand T20I tri-series, which will be followed by the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Australia 2022.
Shaheen will stay with the squad to complete his rehabilitation. His replacement for the ACC T20 Asia Cup will be announced shortly.

Playing a bilateral series against the Netherlands in Rotterdam, Pakistan have sealed the series 2-0, with one match left scheduled to take place on August 20.
Following their back-to-back wins, Pakistan have 110 points after playing 17 matches in the current cycle with a net run rate of +0.221, as per the latest ICC standings.
England are on top with 125 points, Bangladesh are placed second with 120 points, and India are placed on the seventh spot on the list with 89 points after losing four matches out of nine played.
Each team earns 10 points for a win, five for a tie/no result/abandoned match, and zero for a loss.
In case Pakistan clean sweep the Netherlands in the ongoing series, it will lift their points to 120 and assure them of a place in next year’s event proper, irrespective of how their remaining two series against New Zealand and Afghanistan pan out.

Azam, who is currently representing Overseas Warriors in the second edition of the Kashmir Premier League (KPL), requested for an NOC from PCB.
According to media reports, that PCB rejected Azam's NOC request. Meanwhile, other requests were approved and players got NOC for CPL.
As per PCB's policy, national players are allowed to participate in three international leagues apart from Pakistan Super League (PSL).
George Dockrell hit the winning run with two balls to spare after Ireland had been set a revised target of 56 in seven overs, with a seven-wicket victory giving the hosts the five-match contest 3-2.
Ireland paceman Mark Adair removed openers Hazratullah Zazai and Rahmanullah Gurbaz in his first over after home skipper Andy Balbirnie won the toss.
And when Adair dismissed Ibrahim Zadran, he had figures of 3-16, with Afghanistan 26-3 inside four overs.
Usman Ghani, however, led an Afghanistan counter-attack after Josh Little had Najibullah Zadran and captain Mohammad Nabi caught behind by Lorcan Tucker off successive deliveries.
But having made an unbeaten 44, off just 40 balls -- including three fours and two sixes -- Ghani´s innings was curtailed by rain, with Afghanistan 95-5 off 15 overs.
A lengthy delay left Ireland chasing a revised target.
Off-spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman had Balbirnie lbw for nine and when he had Paul Stirling (16) caught at midwicket, Ireland were 38-2.
That became 45-3 when Tucker fell to leg-spinner Rashid Khan for 14.
But Harry Tector and Dockrell then held their nerve as Ireland won with three wickets down.

Although the Portuguese wants to leave United, new manager Erik ten Hag said he is "not for sale".
But it is now thought United could let the 37-year-old leave before the transfer window shuts on 1 September.
"They [will] know the truth when they interview in a couple weeks," Ronaldo said on Instagram.
Ronaldo liked a post on a fan account which referred to a report that Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone was interested in signing him.
But in a reply to the post, the ex-Real Madrid forward added: "The media is telling lies.
"I have a notebook and in the last few months of the 100 news [stories] I made, only five were right. Imagine how it is. Stick with that tip."
Ronaldo has a year left on the contract he signed when he rejoined United from Juventus a year ago.
Despite his return, United missed out on Champions League qualification last season after finishing sixth in the Premier League.
They are now bottom of the table for the first time since 1992-93 after losing their opening two games of the season.
Ronaldo's former United team-mate Gary Neville said on social media: "Why does the greatest player of all time (in my opinion) have to wait two weeks to tell Manchester United fans the truth?
"Stand up now and speak. The club is in crisis and it needs leaders to lead. He's the only one who can grab this situation by the scruff of the neck!"
Ronaldo was United's top scorer last season with 24 goals in all competitions, but missed their pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia.
After being replaced at half-time of United's final friendly against Rayo Vallecano, Ronaldo and several players left the game early, which Ten Hag said was "unacceptable".

Khan, during his latest interview, refused to return to the game even if he was offered a handsome amount for a fight.
"No, I’m done. Honestly, I’m done [with] the sport," responded Khan.
The boxer went on to say that normally he would be nervous while walking into the ring, however, this time he felt nothing. "I had no butterflies in my stomach. I just wanted to get it over with. I didn’t want to be there, I’d lost love for the sport, to be honest with you. I love the sport, don’t get me wrong, but me as a fighter in boxing, I can’t do it anymore," he maintained.
"Boxing is one of the hardest sports in the world and [you should know] when to call it a day. It was difficult to walk away from boxing but the signs were there, it was time to say goodbye," he said.
Britain's former light-welterweight world champion announced his retirement from boxing in May this year.
Khan (34-6, 21 KOs), Olympic lightweight silver medallist at the 2004 Athens Games when he was 17 years old, won the WBA light-welter belt from Ukrainian Andriy Kotelnyk in 2009 and added the IBF title in 2011 when he beat American Zab Judah.
Taylor, in his autobiography, said that one of the Royals owners slapped him while having a laugh, but he wasn't sure if the latter was serious or not.
"Rajasthan played Kings XI Punjab in Mohali. The chase was 195, I was lbw for a duck, and we didn't get close," Taylor was quoted in his autobiography.
"Afterwards, the team, support staff and management were in the bar on the top floor of the hotel. Liz Hurley was there with Warnie,
"One of the Royals owners said to me, 'Ross, we didn't pay you a million dollars to get a duck' and slapped me across the face three or four times," the New Zealand cricketer claimed.
"He was laughing and they weren't hard slaps but I'm not sure that it was entirely play-acting. Under the circumstances, I wasn't going to make an issue of it, but I couldn't imagine it happening in many professional sporting environments," the ex-cricketer shared confusing thoughts.
The New Zealand veteran, who played 450 international matches, hung his boots earlier this year in April.
The squad will reach Rotterdam shortly.
The three-match series will take place under the lights of Hazelaarweg Stadium in Rotterdam from August 16, where Pakistan will eye to conquer and take the winning momentum to the Asia Cup.
The first match will take place on August 16, while the other two are scheduled for 18 and 21.

Naila climbed to the top of G-1 around 7:45 am Pakistan time.
"Summit, Alhamdulilah," she texted from her satellite phone.
"Unbelievable, only three weeks after K2. It was harder than K2. No rope on most technical sections," she added.
This is her third peak of over 8,000 metres, all within Pakistan, making her the first Pakistani woman to summit three of the world's fourteen such peaks.
Naila, a mother of two, had previously summited 8034m, the world's 13th highest mountain, Gasherbrum-1, in 2021 before ascending 8611m, K2, the world's second tallest mountain, last month.
She had climbed K2 shortly after Samian Baig, the first Pakistani woman to do so, and was the second to do so on the same day.
Samina has also climbed Mount Everest, the world's highest peak.
While on her way to scale Gasherbrum-1, Naila informed Geo.tv that G-1, also known as K-5, proved to be more difficult for her than K2, owing to extreme wind conditions.
"It's definitely more difficult than K2, for sure," she said via satellite device from C3 before pushing for the final summit.
Naila is also the first Pakistani woman to complete a 20-day double-header by summiting K2 and Gasherbrum-1.
Arshad Nadeem hopes to bag a medal for Pakistan in the games being currently held in the Turkish city of Konya.
The Javelin Throw competition is scheduled at 7:25 pm today.
Arshad Nadeem has recently won a gold medal in the Commonwealth Games. Türkiye is hosting the 5th edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games in Konya.
The Games that started on August 9 will continue till August 18, according to the TRT World website. At least 4,000 athletes from 56 Muslim countries are competing in 24 different games while vying for a total of 355 medals.
Before Türkiye, the Games had been staged in Saudi Arabia (2005), Iran (2010), Indonesia (2013) and Azerbaijan (2017). The Tehran edition, however, had to be called off following a dispute between Iran and Saudi Arabia.
The primary school students will read about Sarfaraz, who led Pakistan towards victory in the Champions Trophy in 2017. The cricketer's wife Khushbakht proudly announced the news on her Twitter handle by sharing the picture of fourth-grade Urdu book.
"Thrilled! Just by imagining when my kids would read about their father along with friends [and] teacher! Can’t be more proud! Alhamdulliah," she wrote.
Sarfaraz is considered one of the most successful captains in Pakistan's cricket history. He had won two ICC Trophies; U19 Cricket World Cup 2006 and the Champions Trophy.
Along with Sarfaraz, the biography of Pakistan's celebrated woman sprinter Naseem Hameed has also become a part of the syllabus book.

Secretary PBF Nasir Tang told to Dawn.com that the two pugilists — Suleman Baloch and Nazeerullah — disappeared a couple of hours before the team’s departure for Islamabad.
The travel documents of both the boxers are with the PBF officials, he added.
Tang said the British government and the police had been informed about the disappearance of boxers.
“We have seized the documents of the duo under the standard operating procedure,” he said.
The PBF secretary said the boxers would be traced soon.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) has formed a four-member committee to investigate the matter.
In the latest rankings released Wednesday, India's Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant were among the biggest movers as the race for the top ranking hots up ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia later this year.
India defeated West Indies 4-1 in the recently concluded T20I series, with Iyer and Pant playing important roles in the triumph.
Iyer jumped six places to 19th overall batter rankings after hitting an impressive half-ton during the final match of the series in Florida, while Pant finished the series as the equal second leading run-scorer on 115 runs, with his quickfire 44 in the fourth match seeing the left-hander jump seven places to 59th.
Currently, Babar is placed at the top with 818 rating points, however, India's Suryakumar Yadav is not far behind as he has 805 rating points. Last week, he stood at 816 points, just two points shy of Babar.

Pakistani wicketkeeper-batter Umar Akmal is also looking forward to reuniting with former national team skipper Shahid Afridi on the ground during KPL season 2.
Afridi and Akmal will represent the newly-introduced franchise Jammu Janbaz in the KPL 2, scheduled from August 13 to 25 in Muzaffarabad.
Speaking to the journalists on the sidelines of training camp, Akmal said he signed a contract with Janbaz without reviewing it due to his bond with Afridi.
"I didn't read my contract with Janbaz as Afridi had called me before signing," he said. "I always feel honoured to play with Shahid Afridi," added Akmal who will make his KPL debut in this season.
Regarding his performance, he said: "It's my first KPL season and I am very excited about it. I will try my best to perform for my team.”
Koertzen got into a car accident while he was travelling back to his hometown along with his friends.
"Rudi suffered fatal injuries after an accident near Stilbaai between Cape Town and Gqeberha," said the family spokesperson, who requested anonymity.
His son, Rudi Koertzen Jr told Algoa FM News that his father died on impact.
"He went on a golf tournament with some of his friends, and they were expected to come back on Monday, but it seems they decided to play another round of golf," Koertzen Jr said.
Koertzen was one of the finest umpires in world cricket. He umpired in 108 Tests, 209 ODIs, and 14 T20Is.
He first umpired in 1981, handled his maiden international assignment 11 years later, and retired in 2010 after a Test between Australia and Pakistan in Leeds, England.
He became known as the 'slow finger of death' because he very slowly raising his finger whenever indicating a batsman was out.
"Every umpire has their trademark and that was mine. The media labelled it the 'slow finger of death' and I found that pretty interesting. There is a story behind it," Koertzen said in an interview earlier.
"When my umpiring career first began, I used to hold my hands in front of me and every time there was an appeal, I would fold them against my ribs," said Koertzen.
"Someone told me 'Rudi, you cannot do that. Every time you raise your hands to fold them, the bowler thinks you are going to give him a wicket'."
"So I started clasping my wrists at the back. The finger comes out slowly because it takes time for me to release my grasp at the back."

The 25 year old achieved the feat with a career best 90.18 meter throw in the javelin final, edging out Anderson Peters of Grenada who remained runner up.
Setting a new national and Commonwealth Games record, Arshad managed to throw at 86.81 in the first attempt and ended up in fine fashion with a historic 90.15 meter throw. Interestingly, the Pakistani athlete outclassed India's Neeraj Chopra's Tokyo Olympic throw.
Earlier, the Pakistani athlete performed prominently in the Tokyo Olympics 2020 and the World Athletics Championship 2022, finishing fifth in both events.
As the young achiever made history, the government of Pakistan’s official Twitter account cheered for him. Congratulations Arshad Nadeem on making history in Javelin's throw and winning Gold Medal in the 2022 Commonwealth Games, the tweet reads.

The noted climber is eyeing his 12th eight-thousander as he has previously scaled 11 out of 14 peaks above 8000 meters in the world.
He is the Pakistani to have climbed 11 of the 14 peaks above 8000 meters, including the world's highest peak, Mount Everest, and the second highest peak K2.
In 2019, he became the first Pakistani to summit Mount Lhotse, the world’s fourth-highest mountain at 8,516m in Nepal, without the use of supplementary oxygen.
Moreover, he summited the 8,125-metre-high Nanga Parbat in 2017, 8,611-metre-high K-2 in 2018 and Broad Peak, which has a height of 8,163 metres in 2019. Earlier this year, he climbed the 8,091-metre-high Anapurna mountain, 8,848-metre-high Everest and 8,035-metre-high Gasherbrum II.
On four of these expeditions, he had been accompanied by late Muhammad Ali Sadpara.
Sirbaz is aiming to become the first Pakistani to climb all 14 of the world's highest peaks.

The PCB unveiled a 16-member squad for the three-match series against the Netherlands starting from Aug 16, and a 15-member squad for the Asia Cup which will commence from Aug 27.
Hasan was player of the tournament in Pakistan's Champions Trophy win in 2017. But the 28-year-old took just three wickets in two Tests in Sri Lanka last month, claimed only three wickets for 222 runs in his last three ODIs and went wicket-less in two of his last three T20 internationals.
Salman Ali Agha, who toured England in 2021 for the ODIs, has also been recalled for for the Rotterdam matches.
Shaheen Shah Afridi, who is recovering from a knee injury, has been retained in the ODI and T20I sides. According to the PCB, his rehabilitation programme will be overseen by the team trainer and physiotherapist, who will also decide on his return to international cricket.
According to Chief Selector Muhammad Wasim, the management had made only necessary changes to the squad.
"Both the competitions are important for us and we have picked our best available players in consultation with the captain and head coach."
Commenting on Hasan, Wasim said the pacer had been given a break from international cricket and he had been replaced by Shah.
"He [Shah] is express fast and can give further impetus to the fast bowling department, which already has the likes of Haris Rauf, Mohammad Wasim Jr, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Shahnawaz Dahani," the chief selector said.
He added that Naseem had not played any international white-ball cricket but had demonstrated with the red-ball his skills as an attacking pacer with an ability to swing the ball.
“Salman Ali Agha has been recalled to the ODI side after he performed well in the past two Pakistan Cup tournaments, averaging 40.33 and 48.8, respectively. He also gives Babar Azam an additional bowling option.”
The training camp for the players will be held in Lahore from Aug 6 to Aug 11, during which they will also play two 50-over matches.
The national side will depart for Amsterdam on Aug 12 (Friday), while T20I players will join the squad in Dubai for the T20 Asia Cup on Aug 22.
